SNOB - A SNOMED Browser
Manual
Searching
When SNOB has indexed the concepts in the database, you can enter search words in the browser. In default mode, SNOB starts to search the database after you press the Enter key or click the Search button. You may set also set an option that makes SNOB search as soon as the first three characters of a word are entered. SNOB displays the concepts that are indexed by words starting with the entered characters. It is also possible to enter multiple words separated by spaces. In that case, SNOB displays the concepts that are indexed by all entered words (i.e. the space is interpreted as the boolean operator AND).
SNOB continues searching, indicated through the busy cursor, until it finds the user-defined number of concepts as specified in Options. You can stop the search process by hitting the Escape key on your keyboard or by pressing the Stop button.
By placing a search term between square brackets [ ], SNOB only returns concepts that are indexed by that exact term. You can also place multiple search terms between square brackets, e.g. [upper limb]. In that case, only concepts containing that exact text as part of one of their descriptions are returned.
A couple of users said "The search isn't quite as fast as Clue". Here is a possible explanation.
