SNOB - A SNOMED Browser

Manual

Notes

In SNOB you can attach your notes directly to the relevant concept. Select Add/edit note below the Notes button or right-click the concept and select this option from the popup menu, enter the text for your note, and click Ok. Next, SNOB displays a small button directly in front of a concept that has a note attached, clicking this button (or left-clicking the concept with the control key pressed) will popup an editor with the text of the note. A note can be deleted by removing all text in this editor, or selecting Delete and clicking Ok.

Opens a list with all notes. Just select a note and the browser pane focusses on the relevant concept.

SNOB stores these notes in a separate database (called user.db), which is stored in SNOB's data directory. (Default this is the sub-directory data in SNOB's home directory. Both the data directory and the location of the stopwords list are user-definable via Options-Settings-Advanced.) This way these notes are available for each SNOMED database that you create or open.

You can share your notes with other users by exporting them from the Notes window, or select your notes, right-click them and select Mail as XML. SNOB writes your notes to an XML file, which other users can then import into their instance of SNOB. Of course, you can also import the notes of other users into your instance of SNOB.

SNOB can also export your notes to an RTF file, just click Report in the Notes window.

Tip: Sometimes a new version of SNOB changes the format of the user database, for example when adding new features. In those cases, you must export your notes with your current version of SNOB before downloading the new version. After downloading the new version of SNOB you should click the button Clear All in the Notes window. SNOB will then create a new user database, in which you can then import your notes.
