English is my native language, do I need a lexicon?

The lexicon is not only used to translate the descriptions, it also improves the search results. Even in American English, SNOMED CT uses different spellings for the same word. For example, look at the table below, which shows the concepts retrieved for different spellings of tranquilizer. (The table even ignores the different plural forms, and yet another spelling (tranquiliser) in British English!)
