SNOB - A SNOMED Browser
FAQ
The search is not as fast as in CLUE Browser.
N.B.: The following results are based on the 2008 version of SNOMED. Newer versions of SNOMED may (and in the case of the 2010 version do) give different results.
This is true, but SNOB just finds more concepts. As an illustration, just search for 'heart liver disease' in CLUE, which returns only one concept:
19880000 Pick's disease of heart AND/OR liver
Enter the same search terms in SNOB and find four concepts:
19880000 Pick's disease of heart AND/OR liver
253333008 Abnormal connection of hepatic vein to atrium
74669004 Cardiac cirrhosis
297253000 Cardiac glycogen phosphorylase kinase deficiency
Or compare the search for 'pharyngeal cancer' in CLUE and SNOB. You won't find anything in CLUE, but SNOB finds:
363507003 Malignant tumor of pharynx
Still not convinced? Then enter 'ear catheter' in CLUE, and find the concept:
72683003 Removal of catheter from middle ear
Now enter the same search string in SNOB and find these 5 concepts:
71876005 Catheterization of eustachian tube
232199004 Inflation of Eustachian tube using balloon
72683003 Removal of catheter from middle ear
232163009 Suction clearance of external auditory canal
172707007 Suction clearance of middle ear
Tip: Selecting a search filter also speeds up the search. For example, you could use the default filter for Active Concepts, or even better create your own filters. Suppose you are looking for a procedure, then create a search filter that only returns procedures and select this filter before starting the search.
Also try searching for compound words.
